Eventually we would like the aQWERTYon to show other real-time information as well: notes on the staff, chord symbols, and the like. We want to do for the web browser what Samuel Halligan’s pop-up piano does for Ableton Live Suite: Turn it into a visual and aural Rosetta stone that translates in real time between different visual and aural representations of music.

All of our mentored online courses come with six weeks of 1-on-1 professional coaching and feedback on your work. The djembe is one of West Africa’s best known instruments. It is essentially a goblet-shaped drum carved from a single piece of African hardwood with a head made from rope-tightened animal hide.

“You can’t really beat them for that warm, saturated sound that you can only get from analogue tape. I picked up a digital version recently, an RE-3, and it’s nice for what it does but it doesn’t have the magic of the real ones. I like the crunchiness when you overload the tape and the spring reverb is really good… We’re always picking up interesting old analogue gear, but we’ve never found a tape echo that’s better than the Space Echo yet, so yes, I guess it is something of an icon.”

Soundfly’s six-week beginner harmony course, Unlocking the Emotional Power of Chords, will show you how to craft compelling chord progressions in your music. We’ll analyze the chords used in music from across the contemporary landscape, and equip you to use them in your own productions and compositions. You’ll be challenged to write your own mood-setting music by creating tracks for topliners, TV ads, film trailers, and more, and get personalized weekly feedback on your work from an expert mentor. By the end of this course, you’ll be able to harness more interesting chord progressions to provoke powerful emotional reactions in your listeners.

High-pitched noises are often troubling and anxiety-inducing to dogs.

That was the beginning of my journey toward understanding the complexity of audio work and, more specifically, about the role of mastering in the recording process. Having performed music live for years and having dabbled in the studio, I understood that both used mixing; but I had never heard of mastering. How is it different than mixing? Why is it needed? Why didn’t my mixing engineer just do that work for us? I went looking for the answers.

It aims to develop the culture of podcasting in its home province, producing high-quality content and inspiring others to do the same. The goal is offering local listeners a wider breadth of available, relevant audio programming, and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

Once the band and venue begin to show interest, the next thing to do is lock down a confirmed date. This can take some back and forth. Talented people and popular venues are always busy, but that shouldn’t be a huge issue. Just be patient. When asking about dates, always be prepared to suggest a couple alternatives so you can enjoy some flexibility. When the date is locked down, it’s time to talk about money.

Let’s look at some examples and how to approach writing with both kinds of bass sounds. And if this article whets your appetite for hip-hop beat production tips, head over to our mentored online course The Art of Hip-Hop Production now and grab a free preview!

When you’ve been in the music industry long enough, you get used to hearing certain terms after a while. And I’m not talking about the kind of timeless terms that have been determined by musicologists, but the ones that have been coined only recently by musicians who felt the need to do so in order to communicate better with each other.
