Soundfly is a new kind of music school for today’s musician. We create creative courses and daily articles for the curious musician. Meet the whole Soundfly Team here.

For many, this is the dream. But not for me. My eyes become misty when I think of my teenage PC’s dial-up modem croaking into life, a low-quality MP3 of “Guerilla Radio” or “Ms. Jackson” seeping onto my hard drive through the unregulated glory of vintage peer-to-peer technology. Long Live Limewire!

Everyone knows that drinking water is the easiest way to stay hydrated. But did you know that drinking melon water is even better? Not only does it add some welcome flavor to your bland ol’ H2O, but adding chunks of watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew will actually hydrate your vocal cords and throat faster than plain water. The molecules of the melon are larger than those of water, and therefore stay in the vocal tract longer, resulting in higher levels of hydration!

Finally, we come to the latest album in the list, although Ambiant Otaku is, like many of the others, the debut solo album of a legendary minimalist artist. Tetsu Inoue has been active since the early ’90s and has collaborated with other electronic artists such as Bill Laswell, Pete Namlock, Taylor Deupree, and others. Enjoy this last spacey, spectral, synthesized voyage!

If you think through what music your listener was likely exposed to as a child, you can easily figure out how to write to job their nostalgia response. But it’s important to remember that “nostalgia” can also be associated equally with sentiments of sadness and loneliness as it can joy and comfort. As a composer, this is where it becomes important to play with instrumentation, timbre, and tempo, in order to get the right balance.

All of our mentored online courses come with six weeks of one-on-one professional coaching and feedback on your work. It’s like having a personal trainer, but for music! Whether you’re interested in dive deep into a topic covered by one of our courses, like Songwriting for Producers, The Art of Hip-Hop Production, or The Creative Power of Advanced Harmony, or just in working with a Mentor directly to achieve a specific goal, we can help you get started!

But one of the most important aspects is that it’s either built with or able to handle a good amount of tremolo and reverb. Those two effects, along with the warmth that decent tubes will give you, should set you up with the perfect country sound. Here are some of my favorite choices for playing country music:

This course is for producers and DAW users who have no trouble generating ideas, but tend to veer off track and spend all their creative energy on the production, leaving the actual song behind too early in the process. It’s also for any non-professional songwriters (musicians, composers, synthesists) who produce music at home, but lack structure in their process. The course is genre-agnostic, but is best suited for those who lean heavily on their computer to make music.

The eleventh edition of our student work sharing series, this one’s a summer blockbuster jam. Get ready to add some new tracks to your favorite playlist!

My most memorable musical experience might still be my musical beginnings—three young teenagers in a basement trying to figure out how to play “Highway to Hell” and not totally suck—and loving every second of it.

I was met with a lot of pushback and resistance when I first started Muru. People didn’t really identify with the problem as it was somewhat technical and they thought I was trying to compete with streaming services by building a playlist tool. The word “crazy” was thrown around a few times, but once I got validation from a few investors and industry experts, the conversation changed, and those in my network were happy to start making introductions to the right people. I’m forever grateful for the first investors that took a leap of faith in Muru before I was able to prove that the tech worked.
